Control is a Feedback Delay Network (FDN) designed to diffuse and destabilize sound.
While Control can impart a smear and spatial bloom similar to a reverb, its behavior changes dramatically as the Feedback control passes the halfway mark. At that point, the FDN begins feeding back into itself in increasingly unstable and unpredictable ways, transforming reflections into warped resonances, oscillations, and chaotic movement.
Despite its volatile nature, Control can also be used more gently — adding short to medium reflective tails, diffused echoes, and spatial thickness to sounds with a uniquely smeared character.
OVERVIEW
(0) The Gooey Icon: Hovering over the Gooey icon will display a tooltip containing the current product version number.
(0b) Bypass: Clicking the Gooey icon will bypass the plug-in. When bypassed, the icon will change color and a tooltip message will appear indicating the plug-in is inactive.
(1) Preset Save Icon: Click to save a preset. Presets are stored locally in the user preset folder.
(2) Preset Menu: Click to view the full list of saved presets. Use the arrow buttons to scroll through presets as well. Note: Press Ctrl+Z to undo and Ctrl+Y to redo.
(3) Output Levels: Adjusts the post-processing output amplitude.
(4) Xtra: Enable Xtra mode by clicking the Xtra button. Xtra mode introduces additional late delay lines, which both wash the signal when impulses exceed approximately 250ms, and create audible ping-pong echoes on shorter transient sounds.
(5) Color: Adjusts the brightness or dullness of the signal.
(6) Mix: Controls the blend between the dry and wet signal. At lower feedback levels with higher wet mix settings, the signal will soften and push further back in the mix.
(7) Squash: Compresses and pinches the output signal. This is especially useful at higher feedback levels. Audible beating patterns can emerge as the feedback energy interacts with the compression characteristics of Squash.
(8) Feedback: At lower levels, the Feedback control provides diffusion similar to a traditional reverb. As the control passes the halfway mark, the FDN (Feedback Delay Network) begins accumulating energy, causing waves of frequencies to peel away from the diffused signal.
(9) Pre-Amp: Adds up to 24dB of input gain to the signal before processing.
(10) Tooltips: Hovering over controls will display tooltip messages. While adjusting controls, additional messages appear to indicate parameter positions and values.
(11) Splatter: At high feedback levels with modulation, Splatter introduces tearing and instability similar to phase distortion. At lower settings, or without modulation, Splatter smears and spreads the signal across the stereo field.
(12) Wash: Adds a late-tail diffusion network that washes the signal with spectrally balanced diffusion across the spectrum.
